COLIMA, Mexique, 100-250 ap, J.-C.
Seated woman, h. 15.5 cm. This nude woman is in a sitting position, holding a bowl in her right hand. Her neck is matched by a necklace with two holes in the front. Finely worked earrings are hanging from her ears. Her aquiline nose is perforated, her mouth and eyes are represented by deep cuts. The top of his head is rounded and has a discoloration, perhaps the representation of a tonsure or a cap as dignitaries could sometimes wear them. This sculpture has kept its orange-red colour and shows some black traces of manganese oxide which attests that it was buried underground.
